Incineration System for Eggshells and Cardboard Egg Trays
Profitable Conversion of Eggshells and Egg Trays
This innovative technology enables to process two problematic and costly waste fractions from the egg processing industry into a marketable, profitable and environmental-friendly product, Eco-Quick-Lime and into CO2-neutral energy, which can be used in the production of egg products. The Process
In this unique process, a mixture of eggshells and non-reusable cardboard egg trays are co-incinerated in a biomass incineration plant. Other biomass, such as wood pellets, paper waste, gypsum paper, etc. can also be used as fuel. The combustion residue constitutes CO2-neutral Eco-Quick-Lime, produced from organic resources. Quicklime is a widely used chemical compound with an important market value. The quality of the quicklime is at least comparable to conventionally produced quicklime, but produced with far less impact on the environment. Furthermore, the heat developed during the combustion process can be used e.g. for steam production, widely used in the egg processing industry. The Advantages
The advantages of the system are:- Elimination of the risk of disease spreading from eggshells and egg trays, as none of these materials leave the production facility
- Production of a high quality product, Eco-Quick-Lime, a commodity chemical with a significant market value
- Production of CO2-neutral energy from the incineration process
- Complete substitution of fossil fuels, such as oil or natural gas, in the production line at the egg processing plant
- Significant reduction of CO2 emissions
The Elements
The main elements of the system include the following treatment steps and units:- Shredder for shredding of cardboard egg trays
- Transport system for shredded egg trays and eggshells
- Storage and transport facilities for eggshells and shredded trays into the combustion unit
- Combustion unit coupled to a boiler unit for steam or hot water production
- Storage facilities for the combustion residue, Eco-Quick-Lime
